There’s a lot to take in when you’re looking for a new property, but one thing buyers often forget to pay more attention to is location. Here are some considerations for when you’re viewing potential purchases so you can decide what is important to you.
Proximity to shops
It could even just be a corner shop, or a large supermarket, it’s good to know where the nearest ones are and how important that is for you on your property tick list. If you run out of milk, how far will it be for you to just ‘pop’ to the shop?
Parking in the area
It could be that the property you’re interested in has ample parking plus extra for visitors. But what if it doesn’t? Take a look at the surrounding area and roads, does it look like parking spaces are hard to come by? Will visitors need to park up walk to get there? Does this matter to you?
Proximity to schools
If you have children, how important is being close to your preferred school(s)? Do you want to be within walking distance or are you ok that you’d have to drive the school run, are there catchment areas for them?
Distance from village, town or city centre
Is it important that you can walk to certain places within a certain time? How far to the nearest train station or bus stop? If these are important to you, maybe try walking them to give you an idea before progressing with your purchase.
Character of neighbourhood
Is it important that the area seems safe and clean? This is often linked to house prices, but if it’s an unfriendly area, will that impact on your enjoyment of living there or spending time in the area? Maybe looking in areas that suit your personality and lifestyle will be better for you?
